Performance puts Tinkle in final lead position for the 2017 championship

After an already long, hot day at Lucas Oil Raceway practicing and qualifying in a late model with Lorz Motorsports for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour, Zachary Tinkle arrived at Anderson Speedway for his last minicup race of the season with Central States Region Super Cups just in time for qualifying.  Luckily, the great father-son team, Walt and Dallas Frueh of Dallas Frueh Racing, were nice enough to get Tinkle’s car out of the trailer and ready to go onto the track so that he could hop into his ride to qualify. And, qualify he did. Tinkle clocked the fastest time, solidifying further his lead for the fastest qualifier award for the year.

Having a car that was put back together from a crash in the previous race at Anderson Speedway, Tinkle wasn’t completely sure of the handling of the car. It wasn’t perfect and, unfortunately, Tinkle spun in the heat race. Even though there was no contact with other cars and Tinkle made a quick recovery, he opted to go in the infield and not finish the race and take any additional risks.

The goal of the night was to get in the feature race and maintain his points lead to secure the championship.  Even though he had the fastest car on the track, Tinkle took no chances and hung back in a position that would ensure he maintained his lead over the driver that was second place in points.

This performance put Tinkle five points to the good in the points standings though the director of the league commented that he would have to ensure numbers accuracy and that there would be a delay in naming the official champion and points results for the year.
