Zachary Tinkle WINS First Late Model Race: Byrider Spring Championship at Anderson Speedway – McGunegill Engine Performance series

Tinkle Family Racing, with driver Zachary Tinkle, made wholesale changes to their team during the off season and those changes have paid off with Zachary getting his first ever late model feature win Saturday night at Anderson Speedway.

Zachary was competing with the Anderson Speedway McGunegill Engine Performance Late Models on a hot May Saturday afternoon. Danny Trent, his new crew chief, and driver coach Brandon Grant had given Zachary a fast hot rod all season, they told Zachary to go out and really show what he could do Saturday night. Zachary did just that in qualifying, coming in second to fast qualifier Kent Baledge out of 13 teams on hand for Saturday nights Byrider Spring Championships at Anderson Speedway.

Baledge took the lead at the start of the race chased by Tinkle with defending series champion Jeff Marcum running fourth. By the third lap Marcum got inside of both Tom Miller and Zachary and started to challenge Baledge for the lead. Zachary fell back several positions to conserve his tires. Baledge and Marcum spun and made contact with the wall while running first and second, ending the night for Marcum and sending Baledge to the pits for repairs.

Zachary worked his way back to the front to challenge leader Tom Miller. Zachary made the pass on lap 17 to grab the lead and pulled away from the field. Baledge also worked his way back through the field to second but could not catch Zachary as he claimed his first ever Anderson Speedway McGunegill Engine Performance Late Model victory.

“This win is for my crew that gave me a great car,” remarked Zachary. “They worked hard all day in the heat. Thank you to my mom and dad for making my racing possible. And, a big thank you to the fans coming out to Anderson Speedway for the Byrider Spring Championships in the McGunegill Engine Performance series and being in the stands supporting racing”
