Zachary Tinkle’s 2020 race season continued this past Sunday in the Fall Brawl 100 at the famed Lucas Oil Raceway with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance. This event was the closet event to home for Zachary and his family, a raced they had looked forward to all season.
The Fall Brawl 100 event was the second race in the series Chase for the Championship as Zachary looks to win his second CRA Championship in a row. Zachary is one of eight drivers racing over the next Chase events to be in the final four drivers to race for the series Championship on October 9th at Winchester Speedway, as part of the Winchester 400 Weekend.
Zachary’s crew had his race car prepared and ready to attend the open practice on Saturday afternoon under sunny skies on a cool late summer day. Zachary continued to get more comfortable with his new Crew Chief Gary Estes and his crew from Stagger Pro’s and that showed with good speed in both Saturday practice sessions.
The Fall Brawl event had a little different format with another 35-minute practice session on Sunday morning, followed by a 10-minute group qualifying session. Zachary qualified 13th out of the 21 series cars on hand.
Zachary was doing a great job racing in the early stages of the event when he was forced to pit road under green when his car started running hot. The crew made a quick repair and sent him back out, unfortunately Zachary lost two laps to the field during the pit stop. Zachary went back out and finished the event, passing several cars and showing they had a car that would have been a top five car in the event. Zachary finished a very respectable 12th at the end of the 100-lap event.
“We had a great car, but unfortunately we had some cooling issues that forced us to make an unscheduled pit stop,” remarked Zachary. “We say that we don’t lose, we learn and never ever give up. I probably learned more during this race on and off the track than any other that I can think of. Even though the result does not show it, I felt this was one of my better on-track showings as a driver because I had to come up through the field after an unplanned stop under a green flag. I can’t thank my team enough for everything.”
Next Event: Day Racing Products 100 with the Pinty’s U.S. Short Track Nationals at Bristol Motor Speedway with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour on Saturday, September 26th.
