Zachary Tinkle Races Through the Field to Get Second Straight Top Ten Finish
Zachary Tinkle’s 2020 race season continued this past Saturday with the running of the Thomas Automotive American Freedom 100 Presented by JEGS.com at the Jennerstown Speedway Complex located in Jennerstown, Pennsylvania with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance. The event was the first ever series event at the beautiful Jennerstown Speedway Complex and the first ever series event in the state of Pennsylvania.
Crew Chief Danny Trent had Zachary’s VanDoorn Chassis race car prepared and ready to attend the open practice on Friday afternoon under sunny skies and extremely hot and humid temperatures. Zachary felt comfortable in the car at the big half mile track, which drove a lot like Lucas Oil Raceway in Indiana. Another stout field of competitors were entered for the third JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour event of the season.
The team was 11th fastest in the first practice session on Saturday. Zachary was fourth fastest of the 21 cars on hand in the second practice on Saturday.
Zachary qualified 15th for the race, but the team decided to pull the car out of impound and make some changes to improve the handling. Zachary would have to start at the tail of the 100-lap feature after pulling the car out of impound.
The 100-lap feature was a very clean event with only two cautions total, one for a car that broke a rear end and one for a car with a flat tire. Zachary steadily worked his way through the field to finish in eighth place after a tough battle with CRA veteran Brian Ross. The finish was Zachary’s second straight top ten finish.
“We had a weekend of ups and downs,” remarked Zachary. “We pulled the car to change the tires after qualifying and started at the back of the pack and worked our way up to 8th during the race in the Thomas Automotive American Freedom 100 Presented by JEGS.com. This track was a blast to drive on. Thank you to my team for working tirelessly in the heat and humidity. And, a big thank you to Jennerstown Speedway Complex LLC for the hospitality and maintaining such a great facility.”
Next Event: The Masters of the Pro’s 150 at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour on Saturday, July 18th.
