August 29, 2018 UPDATE: Zachary Tinkle’s finish has been upgraded to a P9 finish due to three drivers failing tire tests and being disqualified after the race. Full details on the CRA website.

Tinkle Family Racing and Lorz Motorsports with driver Zachary Tinkle made their second trip of the season to Baer Field Motorsports Park Saturday for the Championship event of the new Triple Crown series for the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Powered by JEGS. The event was the sixth event of the season for the series and the last regular season event prior to the Chase for the Championship playoffs beginning.

Zachary competed with the series at Baer Field earlier in the season for a regular 75 lap show on June 23rd where he came away with a tenth place finish.

Zachary and the team used the two practice sessions on Saturday to get the car dialed in. The Triple Crown Championship event attracted the highest car count of the season for the series, with 22 cars on the track, representing the series and the Baer Field Late Models.

Zachary would qualify in 18th out of the 22 cars that took qualifying times. The team and Zachary were ready for the 75 lap event on a very humid evening in Northern Indiana. Zachary completed all 75 laps, dodged a couple of big wrecks to come away with a very respectable 12th place finish against one of the most talented field of cars he had raced against so far during the 2018 season.

Zachary was disappointed that his streak of five straight top ten finishes ended on Saturday, but he was one of the top finishers of the series regular competitors. Zachary was very happy with his race at Baer Field.

“Our new starter blew so the Lorz Motorsports crew push started me for practice and the track truck pushed me for qualifying and the race. I can’t thank them enough for going out of their way to make sure I had a great race day”, remarked Zachary. “We started 18th and finished 12th in a highly competitive field of 22 cars. There was some competitive action with several cautions. I’m thankful my Performance Friction Brakes and Simpson Race Products gear kept me safe in some tricky situations, including a hit to my right side during the first caution.”

With his 12th place finish Zachary remains third in Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman points and is now locked into the Chase for the Championship with the series, which will begin on September 3rd at Winchester Speedway. The team and Zachary hope to be one of the final four drivers over the next three playoff events to be able to compete for the series Championship on October 13th at Winchester Speedway.

Next Event: JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Owosso Speedway Saturday, August 25th.
