Tinkle Family Racing and Lorz Motorsports with driver Zachary Tinkle made their first visit of the season to Lucas Oil Raceway this past weekend, for the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Powered by JEGS third playoff race of the Chase for the Championship. The event was part of the huge 2018 CRA Fall Brawl at the famed oval just outside of Indianapolis, Indiana in Brownsburg, just down the street from Speedway, were the Zachary calls home.
Zachary and the team participated in the practice sessions on a beautiful cool September Saturday afternoon in Central Indiana. Zachary raced with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour at Lucas Oil in this event last season, so Zachary did have some previous experience at the biggest track CRA races on. Unfortunately Zachary got in some fuel that spilled from another competitor on the track and spun during practice making contact with the outside wall. The Lorz Motorsports Team jumped right in and got the car fixed, but they were limited to only 10 laps of practice.
Zachary qualified 11th out of the 17 cars that took times for the Fall Brawl 40. The team was set to race the feature event which would take place on Sunday afternoon.
The weather on Sunday was a lot warmer then Saturday, but was still a gorgeous Sunday afternoon. The 40 lap feature was drastically different then the series last race at Anderson Speedway, the event was only slowed by two cautions, with drivers giving each other a lot of respect on the fast oval. Zachary would bring his car home in ninth place, his 10th straight top 10 finish in the ten events the series has had so far in 2018. Zachary also gained a lot more experience and brought the car home in one piece.
“We banged the car up pretty good in practice, but the team did a great job getting it back together,” remarked Zachary. “Race day we finished P9, but is just wasn’t enough to keep us in the Chase. The car got looser during the race so I couldn’t get up front to compete. Off to Winchester Speedway for the last race of the 2018 season! Thank you to Simpson Race Products Performance Friction Brakes and Left Paw Press and all family and friends for continuing to support me!”
Even though Zachary is not in the final four drivers competing for the Season Championship at Winchester Speedway on October 13th, he’s guaranteed a finish in the top six in final series points and will be looking to continue his streak of top 10 finishes and no DNF’s!
