Tinkle Family Racing and Lorz Motorsports with driver Zachary Tinkle made the trip to Mt. Lawn Speedway in New Castle, Indiana Sunday to compete in their first Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Powered by JEGS event of the 2018 season. The team decided after the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour event on April 29th to compete full-time with the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman series in 2018 to get Zachary more racing experience. He will compete for that series Rookie of the Year honors and for the Season Championship, while also competing in selected JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour events in 2018 to keep his rookie status for the 2019 season.

The team went to Grundy County Speedway the Wednesday before to shake down the car and make sure the issues from the Birch Run race weekend were resolved.

After a morning practice session, Zachary was ready to compete at the tricky 3/10’s mile tri-oval of Mt. Lawn that is one of the oldest asphalt race tracks in the state of Indiana. Zachary had two additional short practice sessions prior to qualifying. Zachary qualified in at seventh, just outside the five car invert for the starting field for the 50 lap feature event.

At the drop of the green flag Zachary was ready to just make laps and gain valuable experience against a field of very experienced racers. Zachary was able to avoid being caught up in the two yellow flags during the event. Zachary completed all 50 laps, finishing the race in fifth position, his first ever top five finish in a CRA event.

Zachary was very excited with his finish, “I’m very happy with our race today, we gained a lot of experience and it was a lot of fun. I would like to thank the Lorz Motorsports team for working hard to help me get my first top five finish with CRA. Thank you for all the fans for coming out to Mount Lawn Speedway today!

Next Event: The Midwest 100 at Salem Speedway with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour on Saturday, June 16th.
