Tinkle has Irish heritage on both the maternal and paternal sides of his family. On his mother’s side, the Gilliland family came to the U.S.A. some time in the 1700s (estimated).

In the Chicago area, McQuinn was known as a member of the Chicago Gang, which was a term referring to a group of racers from the Chicago area. They raced at local tracks such as the Grundy County Speedway in Mazon. He is in the Midget Racing Hall of Fame. After racing, he became Steward and eventually Chief Steward of the Indianapolis 500. The McQuinns also came to the U.S.A. circa the 1700s (estimated).

In 2015, Tinkle will be participating in three mini cup stock car racing series championships: Central States Region Super Cups, STARS at Grundy County Speedway, and Rockford Speedway. Additionally, he will continue to participate in the K1 Speed electric indoor go-karting junior championship in the Spring session.
